Patience Is A Virtue

"Ain't nobody got no patience
Want what they want right now"
Justin Bieber, Song: Confirmation

Whether you are a belieber or not, I think it is safe to say most people can agree with those words. In todays society everything is so readily available to us. We can stream thousands of tv shows and movies on streaming apps such as Stan or Netflix. We can order food right to our door using Uber Eats. Heck, it's even easy enough to find sex using Tinder!

The world is right at our fingertips - we can use the internet for just about anything. Need a lasagne recipe? Google it. Want bedroom design inspiration? Look on Pinterest. Don't want to go to the supermarket? Order online. We can get just about anything instantaneously. And whilst it is quick and convenient, I think it is causing everyone to become more impatient. People today want everything for free and they want it yesterday.

What happened to patience? And gratitude? The two go hand in hand. Everything is so accessible these days we don't even take a second to be grateful for what we have before moving onto the next thing.  The elder people in the world today had to work a lot harder for the things they attained and were definitely more grateful when they received it.

If this global pandemic teaches the world one thing, I hope it is that we all learn to slow down and take a second to appreciate what we have. The past has been, the future never comes so why not live in the present moment more often? I think it is amazing to see how driven people are towards certain goals and plans they have for the future. But why can't we be driven for the future whilst enjoying the present? If we are always focussed on what is to come then we are forever chasing our tails right?

So for a second I ask you take in the present moment. Take in the time you are spending at home. Whether it be by yourself, with a partner, housemates or family. Whether you are working out every day, starting a new side hustle, getting creative in the kitchen or just taking this time to relax by reading a book or watching a tv series. This is our current reality and it is also out of our control. So let's all just take a second to appreciate the stillness in the world at the moment. I know it isn't ideal. I know it is so sad that this virus has taken the lives of so many. My thoughts and prayers truly do go out to anyone effected by it. But there is enough negativity circulating around it all.

So let's be grateful. Try not to worry about the future. We can't control what is going to happen in 3, 6 or 12 months time. But we can control what we do today.
Not every day is going to be a good day. But if you look for it, there can be good in every day.
